Beautiful Morning

The Military Ball went very well. Considering that Thursday morning is when all the bad weather down here started moving in, I was worried. It seems that karma was on our side though. Everytime we had to leave the house, (like a trip to the salon to have The Girl Child's hair done) the rain would almost stop and the wind died down to an almost soft breeze.

She was able to make it to the car and then the dance hall (which was held in one of the historic buildings downtown by the lake) without getting soaked or wearing the only rain coat I have which is an old ugly trench. It even managed to lighten up to a slight mist when it was time to come home.

Unlike last year's prom, she had a blast at this dance. She wore a more sensible height heel, a much less movement restrictive dress and minimal adornments. The dress theme for the prom could have been described as big, flashy and trying to outshine everyone else on the dance floor. The dress theme for this ball was elegant and understated. I think she felt much more comfortable in her choices this time. (And The Mom did wonderful in helping her pick out the dress!!)

The Girl Child's date looked fantastic in his dress uniform (Or, as he likes to call it, his monkey suit.) I made The Girl Child take my camera with her and she got some good pictures. I now have a list of people I have to print out pictures for. I kind of wish they had offered onsight picture taking like they did at the prom.

Of course, it seemed like as soon as she got home, all the weather seemed to hit at once. I sincerely think the weather was worse in the past two days than the last two hurricane seasons combined. But, I woke up this morning and the sun was shining bright. I looked outside and the hummingbirds have made it back. Last year we had one hummer couple and about four single males. I'm going to hang a couple more feeders this year, one by the front door that we can see from the living room window. I love the little birds (so does our cat! He forgets he's inside and tries to pounce only to find that invisble barrier called glass has stopped him cold.)

Some stormy weather is supposed to move in tomorrow, but today is beautiful.
