The Independance Celebration

tattodnanny wrote herself a drunk entry tonight and unfortunately, I think I'm the one feeling the effects. I'm seriously working on a migraine..........

My Mother tried to walk out of her house a couple of days ago and ended up breaking her ankle. She now has this big piece of heavy, thick plastic posing as a cast wrapped half-way up her leg. It looks almost as painful as her ankle did.

The fourth turned out to be a pretty good day. First it's my Mom's birthday on the fourth, so we did the cake and ice cream celebration followed by a long game of dice.

We then all treked down to the big lake in the middle of town where our volunteer fire department hosts the fireworks display.

It's usually a pretty good affair. We get there about an hour before the explosives start and kind of camp out right at the waters edge. About half the town shows up and since it's such a Goddess Forsaken SMALL town, we generally know about half the people that show up. The kids all run to find their friends and play down by the swings and the adults float around from site to site and generally have a pretty relaxing time with lots of festive talks and reminiscencing.

This year, we had to start out a little early. Mom wanted to come and since she was hobbling along with a walker, it took us a little longer getting from the truck to the lake. (We have to park about two blocks from the Lakeyard) I didn't think she should be putting that kind of prolonged weight on her ankle, but the Mom's pretty stubborn. (A STRONG genetic trait!)

Needless to say, we made it there with plenty of time to spare and to socialize with the other townfolk. I've noticed that every year the fireworks display keeps getting shorter and shorter. This year it only lasted a whole fifteen minutes and I have to admit, the pyrotechnics wasn't very impressive. At least we all had a good time.

Well, my migraine is getting worse and this screen isn't helping, so I'll say good night and go bed down.
